Maryland's Coast Agriculture Week

The Worcester County Department of Tourism and Economic Development is pleased to present the second annual “Maryland’s Coast Agriculture Week” this year from August 2 through August 10. This week will be full of various offerings by local partners, farms, and agricultural businesses throughout Worcester County, Maryland. The community is invited to join us for fun-filled experiences, explore local farms, and discover the heart of our vibrant agriculture community.

Kicking off Agriculture Week is the Blessing of the Combines in Snow Hill, which is celebrating its twenty-fifth year and the Peach Festival in Berlin on Saturday, August 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Blessing of the Combines includes a parade of combines and farm equipment down the streets of Snow Hill at 11am. You can view the schedule and more about this event at www.blessingofthecombines.org. In conjunction with the Blessing of the Combines, the Peach Festival will be taking place in Berlin. This free event will include peach sales, performances, contests, games, and more! Learn more about this sweet event at www.taylorhousemuseum.org.

For weeklong entertainment, be sure to visit the Great Pocomoke Fair located at 2037 Broad Street, Pocomoke City. The weeklong event will run from August 2 through August 9 this year and will include kids’ activities, live entertainment, judging competitions, and more! Then on Sunday, August 3 partake in the antique tractor show taking place at Windmill Creek Vineyard and Winery at noon. The winery’s address is 11206 Worcester Highway, Berlin. This event will include tractors and farm equipment that will be judged and voted upon. There will live entertainment, and adults can enjoy a glass of wine.

On Monday, August 4, Campbell Sheep Company invites you to come to their farm property at 6:00 p.m. for a hands-on opportunity to learn about animal husbandry and livestock showmanship. This is open to all ages! The farm address is 10839 St. Martin’s Road, Berlin.

Come Tuesday, August 5, to celebrate National Oyster Day at one of our local seafood restaurants or cheer on and watch the White Marlin Open boat participants at Marlin Fest. Ocean City is proud to host the world’s largest and richest billfish tournament and this year; the event is celebrating its 52nd anniversary. On Wednesday, August 6 enjoy a behind the scenes experience at a local bee farm, Bay Bees Honey is hosting a beekeeping experience on their farm located in Whaleyville. The public is invited to RSVP in advance and register at $35 per person. You can sign up online, first-come, first-served online at https://tinyurl.com/Bay-Bees-Honey25.

The next day, Thursday, August 7, come out to a local horse farm from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Rusted Star Ranch at 8616 Cedar Lane Road, Berlin. This event will include a meet and greet horses and a horse ride. Close toe shoes are required, and liability waivers must be signed if you wish to rise. Light refreshments will be served. In addition to this event at the horse farm, you can also check out the ticketed event taking place at Bennett Orchards at 6:00 p.m. The farm address is 31442 Peachtree Lane, Frankford. At this location, participants will be able to cut-your-own sunflowers, pick peaches, do a yoga session and grab some food! Registration is coming soon!

On Friday, August 8 Cross Farms located at 9933 Pitts Road, Berlin will be hosting an heirloom tomato tasting event from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Event attendees will be able to savor fresh and delicious tomatoes and learn about their harvest process. This event will also include a farm tour.

Last but not least, on Saturday, August 9 join Baywater Landing for an exclusive aquaculture boat ride and tour, and learn about their business on the Chincoteague Bay. Seating space is limited and will begin promptly at 5:45 p.m. The marina’s address is located at 3908 Bayside Road, Snow Hill.

The grand finale of Agriculture Week is the Worcester County Fair. The Worcester County Fair will be held at John Walter Smith Park, located at 6022 Public Landing Road, Snow Hill from August 8 to August 10. The fair will be full of live entertainment, kids’ activities, farm animals, and family fun that you will want to enjoy! Learn more about the schedule of events at www.worcestercountyfair.org.

In collaboration with the full week’s lineup of agricultural events, the office of tourism and economic development encourages the community to support local and attend the weekly farmer’s markets taking place across Maryland’s Coast. The farmers market schedule is as follows: Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. the Ocean Pines Farmers and Artisans Market takes place at White Horse Park. On Sundays, from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the Berlin Farmers Market occurs on Pitts, Commerce, and Main Street. On Thursdays, from 12:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. the Snow Hill Farmers Market is held at the Green Street Parking Lot. On Fridays, beginning at 7:00 a.m., the Pocomoke Farmers Market starts at 3 Market Street. On Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the Ocean City Farmers Market takes place at Gold Coast Mall.
